Atwima Nwabiagya South leads In HIV Infection Rates In Ashanti Region. In the heart of the Ashanti Region lies the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality, an area grappling with a significant HIV prevalence. Dr. Emmanuel Boamah, the Medical Officer at Nkawie Government Hospital, sheds light on the concerning statistics plaguing this region. Within the municipality, a staggering count of 1,682 individuals is already living with the HIV virus, with an alarming addition of 285 new positive cases documented by November 30 this year. This data highlights the pressing need for immediate intervention and heightened awareness within the community.

Identified as the most endemic regions within this municipality, Sepaase, Manhyia, and Agogo stand out as areas bearing a disproportionate burden of HIV cases. It’s in light of these concerning numbers that Dr. Boamah addressed a public gathering at Wioso, near Nkawie, during the World AIDS Day commemoration. His message was clear and urgent: the community must take proactive steps to curb the spread of the virus.

During this public event, Dr. Boamah stressed the paramount importance of preventive strategies. He urged the community to exercise caution in sexual activities, advocating for faithfulness within relationships or consistent condom use. Additionally, he highlighted the free HIV/AIDS testing available through the municipal health directorate, calling upon community members to avail themselves of this crucial service to ascertain their status.

He emphasized the gravity of the situation, underlining the necessity of practicing safe sex and cultivating widespread awareness to stem the disease’s spread.

This call to action serves as a rallying cry for the community to stand united against the pervasive threat of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Boamah’s outreach and education initiatives seek to empower individuals with knowledge, fostering a culture of proactive health consciousness and collective responsibility in the fight against this debilitating disease.
