ABSTRACT
Background: Records management has over the years proven to be a very
essential component in the smooth and effective running of many institutions
across the globe. In the healthcare system, the records been managed mostly is
the patients’ health records and each health facility has the aim of keeping
patients health information to aid in effective healthcare delivery to the patient
at every episode of care.
Aim: The study sought to find the impact health records
management practices have on service delivery at Bono Regional Hospital,
Sunyani. Methods: The study employed cross-sectional study design with the
administration of questionnaires as instrument for data collection. Data
collected from respondents was entered into Microsoft excel for editing,
analyzed with Stata and the findings were presented into table and charts.
Results: The study revealed that 84% of the health personnel had
high knowledge on health records management. The chi-squared test done to show
the association between the level of education of the health personnel and
properly managed health records ensures quality healthcare delivery revealed
(p-value<0.001) indicating a statistically significant association. It was
revealed that infrequent in-service training on Health Records Management
affects service delivery. Findings also indicated that health records
management is vital in service delivery at the hospital.
Conclusion and
Recommendation: The
study revealed that the health personnel had high knowledge on health records
management. Also, the study revealed that health personnel have collective
responsibility in managing the health records. Also it was revealed that health
records have a linkage with service delivery. Based on the findings, it is
recommended that health personnel with low educational level should upgrade
their education and also management should conduct frequent in-service training
for the staff to improve upon their skills and knowledge.
